Cherry Blossom is looking good for fall (free download)
Before going any further, please note that this article is intended for those who already own the pattern Cherry Blossom and wish to download the parts offered in the new enriched version of thpatterne .
As announced on our Instagram page, Cherry Blossom has moved into Fall/Winter mode with new 3/4 sleeves and two pretty gathered ruffles to frame the neckline and back. Also new, we have added some gathers on the back of the blouse. We will explain everything in detail in the following article!
But first, here's the link to download the sleeves and ruffles (print all A4 pages at real size or 100% and tape them together with the help of markers):
TUTO N°1 : MAKING AND ASSEMBLING THE STEERING WHEELS
- Pin pieces 8 and 9 together right sides together with the short side corresponding to the shoulder seam. Stitch at 1 cm. Thread the seam allowances separately and flatten them with a flat iron. You have two ruffles. On each ruffle one press two successive 5 mm folds on the longer side to form a hem. Stitch the hem 3 mm from the edge. Adjust your stitch (maximum length, minimum tension), then stitch two parallel rows of threads with no stop stitches along the entire length opposite the hem, the first 5 mm from the edge, the second 1 cm from the first. Then pull the two bobbin threads together to form the gathers.
- Pin the first ruffle one against the corresponding outer front (reverse side of the ruffle reverse side of the outer front). Divide the gathers. Make a 5 mm holding seam. Pin the "ruffle + outer front" piece with the centre yoke right sides together. Make sure you take all the fabric layers together and match the notches and shoulder seams. Stitch at 1 cm, thread the seam margins and press them with an iron towards the side of the blouse. Press it ruffle to the side as well. Repeat for the second ruffleone.
TUTO N°2 : BACK GATHERS
On the first version of Cherry Blossom, only the middle front was puckered. For this version 2.0 we wanted to add some gathers in the middle back. This is completely optional, but if you want to add them, you just have to increase the width of the back basque by multiplying the horizontal line at the top of the basque (line from the middle back to the notch) by 1.4. You will then need to stitch two parallel gathers and pucker the area before assembling it back to back right sides together.
TUTO N°3 : MAKING 3/4 SLEEVES
On the first version of Cherry Blossom, the length of the sleeves, just above the elbow, had been designed for spring.
The new piece will allow you to make both shorter sleeves (piece 7.a) and 3/4 elasticized sleeves (piece 7.b), perfect for fall and why not winter if you use a slightly heavier fabric like cotton jacquard.
To make the 3/4 elasticated sleeves, measure your forearm at its widest point (about 15 cm above the wrist) and add 1 cm. Use this measurement to cut 2 pieces of elastic 1 cm wide. Once your sleeves are closed and sewn onto the body of the garment, make a first fold of 1 cm at the bottom of one sleeve, mark it with an iron, then make a second fold of 1.5 cm. Stitch leaving an opening of a few centimeters. Insert the elastic with a safety pin. Sew both ends of the elastic with a few stitches by hand. Close the opening. Repeat the operation with the second sleeve.
Here you have all the information you need to make a nice Cherry Blossom blouse for the fall!
Good sewing and see you soon on the blog!
