Hazel transforms into a shirt-dress with a claudine collar (free download)
Before going any further, please note that this article is addressed to who purchased the pattern of the HAZEL shirt before its update and wish to download the new claudine collar for free . If you don't have the pattern yet, you can buy the new enhanced version by clicking here.
Because Hazel is one of our signature patterns, a chic basic that you love to sew and wear, we wanted to bring it back to the forefront with a brand new variation: a shirt dress with an ultra-feminine Claudine collar. We'll explain in detail how to make this variation from your pattern in the following article!
First of all, here is the link to download the new collar (print the piece on a full size A4 sheet and use the test square to check the scale):
TUTO N°1: LENGTHEN THE SHIRT INTO A DRESS
TUTO N°2 : SEWING THE CLAUDINE COLLAR
To add a Claudine collar to your Hazel shirt, you will need to follow the assembly steps for option B (no collar) but insert the collar before you attach your neckline bias.
Step 1: Heat seal one of the two collars. Place the two collars right sides together. Pin along the outer edge and stitch at 1 cm with a straight stitch. Clear the seam allowance by a few millimetres and notch in the curves before turning the collar right side out. Iron carefully.
Step 2: Pin the Claudine collar to the front of the dress along the neckline, using the notches. The iron-on piece should lie against the dress. Make a holding seam 0.5 cm from the edge.
Step 3: Next, place the bias tape over the collar following the instructions for option B in the pattern Hazel booklet.
Now you have all the information you need to make a pretty Hazel shirt-dress, with a claudine collar or why not the elegant Victorian collar already proposed on the initial version of pattern !
Happy sewing and see you soon!
